Applying πŸ“„

So, you’re interested in applying to the University of Strathclyde. Let me walk you through the selection and application process I underwent to enroll in the Fall 2022 semester.

To give you some background, I am a fourth-year student at the University of Ottawa studying Commerce (with an option in International Management). It is a requirement of my program that I complete an international exchange to obtain my degree. I did not apply directly to the University of Strathclyde; my home university provided me with a list of exchange options, and I selected Strathclyde as one of them. I sent my completed application to my home university at the beginning of January 2022. By mid-March 2022, I had been matched with Strathclyde.

After accepting my results, I was asked to complete a Pre-departure Workshop and follow the latest travel procedures for students at my home institute (these steps may differ depending on the requirements of your home institute).

By the end of April 2022, my nomination to attend the University of Strathclyde was approved. From then on, I would receive regular emails from Strathclyde’s Exchange Team.

The team provided me with a Fact Sheet and Application Guide containing all the essential information I needed to complete my exchange application. Before selecting your classes, you may need to have them approved by your home university to ensure your credits can be properly transferred. (The credit system at Strathclyde is very different from my home university. Therefore, I had to complete a course approval form).

All things considered, I found the application process relatively straightforward. The Exchange Team does a good job of outlining your next steps and provides you with reasonable deadlines to complete forms and provide documents. However, if you wish to apply for student accommodation, you must complete a separate application on the Accommodation Portal. I applied for accommodation in May 2022 and received my Offer of Accommodation at the end of July 2022. (Make sure you pay attention to the submission deadlines and pay your rent prepayment on time to secure your spot!)

I would highly recommend joining the Strathclyde Incoming Exchange student Facebook Group upon applying. You can post questions, join discussions, or simply connect with other incoming students before you arrive!

[Please note: The application process can vary based on your location, home institution, and other considerations. The entry above reflects my individual experience when applying to the university, which may differ from your own.]
