Settling in 🏠

I have been living and going to school in Glasgow for over a month now, and I am STILL learning my way around. Luckily, many resources are available at the University of Strathclyde for international students, in particular, the International Student Support Team provides guidance and information for all registered international students. Suppose you have questions about your exchange or personal issues about studying abroad. In that case, I recommend booking an appointment with them or dropping by their office on Level 4 of the Learning & Teaching Building.

Don’t worry, my recommendations don’t end there! Here are a few more general tips you might find useful as you begin to settle into your university life:
  • Download the Strathclyde Mobile App - available on the App StoreGoogle Play, and Microsoft. The app has many helpful features, such as a personalized timetable and a campus map. The app provides real-time updates to help you stay on top of things!
  • Join a society or sports club. Strathclyde is home to around 200 student-led societies and over 50 sports clubs! Go to events. Another great way to meet people is through events! Strath Union runs a variety of events year-round with something for everyone.
  • Make a budget and stick to it. Expenses add up quickly, so it’s very important you budget, especially if you’re living off limited savings. When creating your budget, ensure you account for things like food, transportation, going out and emergency funds.
  • Book trips in advance. If you’re like me and this is your first time visiting Europe, chances are you will want to travel. Weekend trips are a great way to explore other cities or even countries if you can make the time. I have saved so much by booking my trips a week or two in advance and making use of student discounts if available. Scotland is such a beautiful country that you must explore during your time here. Rabbies offers excellent guided tours all over the country that I highly recommend taking!
